Web Directories (also known as Link Directories or Subject Directories) are another way to find to information on the Web. These directories work much like a traditional hard copy directory, providing links to a list of relevant websites often organized by topic.
A web directory is not a search engine - they do not send out spiders and indexing bots, and don’t display lists of web pages based on keywords. The categorization of each link is usually based on the whole web site, rather than one page or a set of keywords, and sites are often limited to inclusion in only one or two categories.
Sites within Web Directories are normally submitted by the site owner with a description that they feel appropriately describes the content of the site. When you perform a text search in a web directory it will normally return the best websites based on the site descriptions.
Typical categories in a web directory would be Home, Entertainment, Arts, Business, Technology, Kids etc.
RSS or Blog directories are similar to web directories, but contain collections of RSS feeds or Blogs, categorized by topic.
